The Martian by Andy Weir
Read April 2018.
This is one of my favourite books from 2018.
Having seen the film version, which is rather good, I was keen to see what the book was like.
I am happy to report that this is a great sci-fi novel, about an astronaut who accidentally gets left behind on Mars, after his fellow crew mates are forced to evacuate the planet during a huge storm. Everyone thinks that Mark Watney is dead and he has to use his botany and engineering skills to work out how to survive in very a hostile environment.
It is a thrilling read and contains so much more than the film - as usual. You become really attached to Mark Watney and his battle for survival, all alone, on Mars. There is a lot more science in the book too.
This is a brilliant space adventure.
